Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for filtering process
  2. Start-up equipment in sequence
  3. Operate and monitor equipment
  4. Shutdown in sequence and/or isolate equipment
  5. Conduct housekeeping activities

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of filtering processes, including:

applying lifting techniques (manual, cranes and loads)

monitoring operations

reporting defects

use safe work practices

selecting and using relevant tools and equipment

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the filtering processes in a way that meets all of the required outcomes, including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

demonstrates completion of filtering processes that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

coordinating filtering activity with others

adjusting equipment and communicating effects upstream and downstream

controlling the feed to filtering equipment

monitoring moisture and density

maintaining cleanliness of the filtration system

isolating and shutting down filtering equipment in sequence and perform checks

performing minor maintenance

returning filtering equipment to service


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of conducting filtering process through:

applying, legislation, organisational and site requirements and procedures including:

safe equipment operation

using air systems

applying contaminant identification

following environmental principles

identifying equipment operating parameters

identifying hazardous substance procedures and consequences of spills

identifying repair requirements

identifying isolation principles

identifying and applying metallurgical and technical data

applying operational procedures and checks

identifying and applying filtering procedures and safety requirements

identifying and monitoring equipment operating parameters

interpreting metallurgical and technical data

identifying types of product (slurry etc)

being prepared for fire/accident/emergency
